Verify SMS, Before Forwarding

These are notes from my facebook:

Part 1:
Last night, from about 9.45pm I received a barrage of SMSes from friends and relatives urging the boycotting of a major petrol station in Penang.

The SMS message was as followed:

STOP BUYING PETROL AT THE STATION NEXT TO , THAT STATION BELONGED TO AHMAD ISMAIL.

The above message was clearly pinpointing a well-known, well-established and well-patronised petrol station in Penang.

The owner of the said station was a friendly Chinese lady with a Malay husband.I have never meet her husband, only her elderly but alert mother. I could not believe such a friendly person could be linked to such an infamous person.

Immediately, I decided to drive to that petrol station to verify the accuracy of that sms. The message was totally malicious, Madam Marie's husband was Mr Hassan Farouke. Their business have no link to Ahmad Ismail, they do not know him except what that had been written in the newspaper.

I decided to type an SMS to all my friends and relatives to stop forwarding that message. I hope it will help. (later, a friend sms me to thank for sending out the counter sms, Mr Hassan was his friend in Penang Free School, Class of 1965)

But, damaged had already been done.

I suggested she report to the police and held a press conference to rectified the situation.

The lesson - since March 2008 there are so many inaccurate SMSes circulating - we most be responsible. Check the accuracy of the SMSes before forwarding.

Part 2:
The updated or corrected sms on boycotting another petrol station circulating today is also not true.

The owner, Mr Seraz Ahmad have been operating the petrol station for 16 years. He is an UMNO member but strongly do not support Ahmad Ismail actions.

I agreed with Zhiyi that SMS is a tool, we have to learn to use it for JUST & USEFUL causes.

I cant believe it.

Not only this HKL dare not open his mouth to whack his boss Ahmad, now he is trying to protect some UMNO businesses.

Another shameful act by you Khoon Leng, all UMNO Penang businesses should be boycotted, why? Tell u why:

1. They got their business thanks to some political connection via UMNO

2. All 13 Penang UMNO divisions gave their full support to Ahmad for calling chinese immigrants, greedy and like jews.

HKL do you have some business interest? I dont see why you so desperate so protect UMNO linked companies.

Rob roy,

I don't think deep down HKL is protecting Ahmad because after all he made a police report on him.

The thing that irks me though is HKL's selective persecution in his blog. He only dares to make cheap criticism like copycat, potholes, prof title, railing, etc at LGE and DAP in his blog but misses the bigger points like racism, land scams, etc!! Just shows HKL still really believes in the leadership of BN/UMNO and it's system. Either that or maybe he still doesn't want to burn the bridge with UMNO and is hoping to get his Datukship.

I am not desperate to protect the above said businesses.

Is it wrong to protect Malaysians of any political affiliation that are innocent from been victimized?

What will happened if PR managed to come into power? If rob roy and fishhook have such an attitude, what more of their leaders. Chaos will prevail as Pakatan Jahat will victimized any people that are not politically affialiated to PR or do not support them.

I would have thought that rob roy(always changing his name) and fishhook will support what I had posted, instead they are blinded by hatred, anger or plain ignorance.

Note: At least two DAP supporters that call me to apologies for sending that sms.

Petrol stations drawn into fray

GEORGE TOWN: The controversy surrounding Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail has reached a farcical extent, with petrol stations drawn into the fray.
Yesterday, text messages urging people not to buy petrol from a Shell station in Greenlane and another near Gembira Parade in Island Glades were widely circulated. They claimed the stations were owned by Ahmad.

However, both station operators yesterday denied that Ahmad was the owner.

Greenlane Shell petrol station operator Hassan Farouke said he had lodged a police report.

"The SMS is not true. I am the operator of this station."
Another Shell petrol station operator, Seraz Ahmad, said he was the operator of the station near Gembira Parade in Island Glades. He, however, does not intend to lodge a report.

"I have been operating here for the past 15 years and the people from the community here know me."

Both Hassan and Seraz said their businesses were not affected by the false text messages being circulated.

Two petrol station owners see red

GEORGE TOWN: Two petrol station owners are seeing red over SMSes calling on the public to boycott their stations and alleging that the businesses belong to Bukit Bendera Umno division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail.

The two different SMSes were sent out on Tuesday night and yesterday, asking people to stop buying petrol from the Green Lane Shell station beside McDonald’s and the Shell station in Island Glades in front of Gembira Parade.

However, both owners have denied that the petrol stations belong to Ahmad and one of them has lodged a police report over the mischief.

The Green Lane station owner, Hassan Farouke, 59, said he never knew who Ahmad was until the media highlighted his alleged racist remarks.

“My mother and my wife are Chinese. I’m not a racist and I hope these political issues will be settled by politicians,” he said.

Hassan lodged the police report at the Jelutong police station at 12.15am yesterday.

The Island Glades Shell station owner, Seraz Ahmad, 46, said he too was disappointed over the SMS rumour.

“I’m here to do business. I’m not interested in political issues,” he said.

Seraz, who has been operating the station for 16 years, said he has no plans to make a report over the SMS.

I didn't say you were wrong about simply sending sms without verifying facts. In fact I did one better than your two DAP friends by not even forwarding a single one of the two said sms at all because i know that you cannot believe everything you read by sms or the internet. So i really have nothing to apologise for. It's bad enough that one do something wrong and apologise later, but it's worse that one does something wrong and is not remorseful and refuse to apologise!

My point is that you always choose to highlight small matters in your blog regardless of the main and bigger issue. Take this Ahmad case. You have not written any posting to condemn Ahmad in your blog although you think it is so serious that you made a police report. Instead you made two posts, one to take cheap shots at DAP for making copycat report and the other insinuating that PR people have been irresponsible with sms. So don't you think you're missing the bigger picture here?

In your own words "If rob roy and fishhook have such an attitude, what more of their leaders." Using the same logic, if Ahmad can have that kind of attitude and not severely punished (or condemned by blogger who made police report), what more of his leaders? Ponder over this....

ya...HKL blogs like to take cheap pot shots against LGE and PR in Penang. I always come to this blog to have a few laugh. this blog always reminds me how pathetic, and what a sorry state Gerakan is in..

H'ng Khoon Leng said...

Thanks for your compliment.

Good laughs are good for healthy and long life.

Keep on coming back & reading....

Fishhook:

Everyone is condemming Ahmad Ismail. Everyone have his way of doing it.

I had lodged 2 police reports that started sedition investigation against him for two separate incidents.

Of course, I had plans for other actions against AI, must everything be revealed in my blogs. I have strategic and tactical considerations. Not mere "hentam" only

HKL said "Chaos will prevail as Pakatan Jahat will victimized any people that are not politically affialiated to PR or do not support them."

It has happened for so many years and is happening now with the BN gov: RPK in ISA, newspaper asked to show cause, accusations of sodomy....

And do we see HKL condemning such acts in his blog?... maybe he's waiting for when it is strategically and tactically to his advantage... or maybe his blog is for bashing DAP and PR only..

H'ng Khoon Leng said...

Fishhook:

RPK deserved to be held under ISA, he is a political manipulator and extremist. It is a belated action by the authorities.

However, mine stand on ISA for "political arrest" is that no persons must be be rearrested after the completion of the initial detention order. That person should be charged it court. This law needs to be reformed.

I am against the show cause letters to the press. My thought had been conveyed to my leaders.

I believe that your Supreme Leader did that act, so how can I defend him?

You called these situation chaos, I disagreed. The worst hopefully will not come. Stern actions against BN or PR supporters will prevent the real chaos I am talking about.

Of course, I will ALWAY criticize PR on my blog. As I said I do not wash dirty linen in public. Gerakan and BN many shortcomings will be discuss internally - that is my STAND.

My blog is BN and Gerakan bias, I never denied that. PR supporters are most welcomed to read my blog for different viewpoint.

h'ng,

Stop your crap about justifying your BN masters la!

Sin Chew reporter and Teresa Kok detained not enough for you meh?

Wake up!!! Your masters have gone too far this time.

Kiss your party and yourself goodbye from political relevance.

Just ask your non-Gerakan friends what they think and then maybe you will understand!

H'ng Khoon Leng said...

Gerakan, MCA and other BN parties had secured the release of the Sin Chew reporter.

Let see Pakatan Rakyat secured the release of Kok and RPK? (Empty talk, nag, bluff, nonsense and lie only)

Wow... then Ms Tan should be eternally grateful to UMNO that she is still alive today because the police protected her under ISA. I guess the police intelligence unit must have info that she is at risk for only 16 hours since she doesn't need protection now. So if anything happens to her, Gerakan and MCA must be held responsible because you got her out of the police protection of ISA so soon...

Please la HKL... don't talk rubbish.

Then again, we are grateful that Gerakan has put their years of begging-from-UMNO experience to good use this time. Most importantly she is out of ISA.

p/s: what's up with deleting comments? can't take the heat?

H'ng Khoon Leng said...

Fishhook:

When did you became a racist supporter?

I have deleted comments attack that were racist in nature!!!!

I have not deleted your comments even though it were mostly baseless comments as it were not racists.

I practise true freedom of expression not like most Pakatan Rakyat incline bloggers that do not publish our comments

Unknown said...

Again contradicting yourself in the same comment... shameless! Just like your flip-flop gov.

Practicing true freedom of expression but deleted comments which you deem racist. That's censorship la.

H'ng Khoon Leng said...

Fishhook:

Pls migrate to USA, there maybe the type of "true freedom of expression" which include allowing racist comments to remain undeleted exist.

Look at yourself you have became a racist supporter due to your undivided, unquestionable, without thought support for your idols.

Even your comments that previously were well written had became mere rhetorics, foul and meaningless words.

romerz said...

h'ng you are nothing more than a 'grunt' a mindless marine who will charge into a hail of fire when ordered by your masters!

"Gerakan, MCA and other BN parties had secured the release of the Sin Chew reporter."

Please la you secured nothing! She was released because those that put her in detention realized that they have overstepped the boundary of decency and continuing to detain her is no longer tenable.

And you forgot to add that it was the BN government that put her in detention in the 1st place. So what are you saying? That Gerakan had no hand in it? Isn't Gerakan a member of BN?

You are already equally guilty by association!

Gerakan and all the other component parties are equally as guilty for propping up this UMNO/BN government which allows them to do as they please.

h'ng whatever you say holds no water because you are still part of BN and it is UMNO/BN that is causing all the problems in this country.

If you continue to remain in BN, each time you open your mouth, I will continue to hentam you. If you leave and do the right thing for the rakyat and not yourself then I may end up on you side.

The choice is yours.

Anonymous said...

PHK keep up the good work, those hentaming are jealous and greedy for power, you tell the other side of the story. It is good for a balance view. Don't stop writing, don't be discouraged, don't join the bandwagon - what you say are worth reading.

romerz said...

h'ng ah, wait a bit ok? Don't be so stupid to charge forward la.

Things are moving within UMNO/BN which is beyond the comprehension of you and your simpleton supporters!

Even your acting president don't know how to make of the fluid situation on the ground so keep your mouth shut la.

Wait until the big boys in UMNO finish their power play before you talk ok?

What you and I say is not important anymore. But if you love your party, then you must look for right opportunity to talk or else whatever you say is rubbish.

Think man!!!!

Accept the fact the fact that we no longer control our destiny but the big boys do. So stop playing this small time politics and focus on the bigger picture if you can.

What happens in the next 3 months will decide what happens for this country for another 20-30 years to come.

Use your energy in the right place la!
