SYNOPSIS:
ECONOMY IN JEOPARDY
Malaysia's New Political Landscape and its Crisis in Governance
The 12th General Election brought forth a new dawn in Malaysian politics; for the first time in history party rotation in government is seen at five state government level. At the Federal level; the Barisal Nasional (BN)-led government is now facing a strong opposition front; signaling the end of its absolute dominance in policy formulation. Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has now taken over the reign of five state governments; facing acute challenges of improving on the governance of these states.
Would the setback BN faced in the 12th Election push it towards radical reform of both people and organization? What will change and what will not?
How would BN return to its former path of responsible governance? PK now faces integration at the state level and building consensus on the national agenda; is it realistic for the people to expect that there could be a real alternative?
How much time and how much longer can?
Malaysians wait for the political parties and the government to get its act together? In the meantime, the international conditions continue to pose severe challenges on the Malaysian economy. The policy bottlenecks and mismanagement have put the economy in jeopardy; severely undermined the competitiveness of the nation. Inflation, lack of new sources of economic growth and inefficiencies in the domestic system are pushing the pain index; for both business and citizen to record height.
With the new political dynamics, can Malaysia expect this crisis in governance be speedily resolved? What are the priorities to get the nation onto a path of sustained economic growth?

Sdr HKL,
I am a Gerakan member of indian parentage but would like to remain anonymous. I speak our national language and english. I would like to bring up here that this forum is discriminatory as only people who know mandarin (not national language or common language) can understand and hence attend. It is even more disheartening to note that Gerakan is organising this event, ignoring the sizeable non-chinese in the party. Why do you claim we are multiracial when this is a blatant racism by Gerakan?
If this is how you treat the minority in your party, I am considering to quit this party and I can assure you many minority like me who are abused within the party will follow suit. I hope this can be rectified so that I can remain loyal to Gerakan but this sort of racism cannot be tolerated. We are not MCA for god sakes. This is the very reason Datuk Rhina Bhar left.
HKL, please do something.
Thanks
hi gerakan heart,
why having talked so much, offer yourself for any forum or talk la! you can claim this and that, why not you offer yourself for a talk in tamil, so the so-called minority can benefit from the talk!?
why? cannot ka? you also cannot help yourself, what do you expect from the others?
use your heart and do something for all! don't wait for people to do it for you! since the chinese is willing to offer for a talk! let she talk la! she is also a malaysian!
please don't embarrass the indians!
don't compare rhina bhar with other indians! she's not fit! other indians don't act like her, the renown opportunist in the society!
you see, she will join dap or pkr slowly.
Badluck,
First of all you are broadcasting your ignorance by thinking all indians speak tamil, tamil is not my mother tongue. I hope you are not a Gerakan member, because Gerakan members are much smarter than this.
Secondly, I dont wish to speak, I am a listener and I want to listen something in either Malay or English - however I am very disappointed that these talks that is organised by Gerakan youth is delivered in Mandarin.
So my question again, is Gerakan a chinese party or multiracial party?
If we are multiracial than all talks should be in common language - after all dont forget we indians are also members. Because of this discrimination, leaders like Datuk Rhina Bhar left Gerakan- its our own fault. You said PKR, PKR uses Malay in as their common language not Mandarin - Mandarin is not our official language.
Im suprised why saudara HKL is not answering me? Badluck, I am not here to fight or argue - i just people like saudara HKL to see my point of view. Im afraid if these continues, more indians and chinese who cant speak mandarin will leave Gerakan, remember we already lost thousands of members to PR lately. I just dont want to be one, but if Gerakan continues to be racist, than I have to rethink my position.
Gerakah heart,
Are you stupid? Gerakan is a racist party, if you dont know this already go ask your Rhina Bhar - she openly said she quit because the leaders are all racist. Not even one non-chinese contested for Gerakan - speaks it all. Multiracial party my foot!
You should quit and leave the party, in this age of multiracialism we cannot tolerate this sort of nonsense. Gerakan's founding members included so many intellectual malays including Syed Alatas, there is not even one malay in their top leadership.
Time to walk the talk and disband the party. Let people like badluck sit and lay eggs in it. If badluck or any other dudes out there have anything to say, keep your mouth tightly shut until Gerakan allows malays and indians to contest, aint replying otherwise.
HKL, I know you are Gerakan loyalist but you need to ponder man, not write, just ponder hard and see what Gerakan has to offer. I am in no way criticizing you but only the party which has now enslaven by UMNO and become a 'chinese' party.
Hi gerakan heart,
As part of the OC for Teh Tarik Forum, I think I owe you an apology for not being able to answer your question soon enough and thus the unnecessary misunderstandings.
I am not sure whether gerakan heart has ever attended Teh Tarik forum (TTF)before. But I take upon myself to clarify that since its inception almost tow years ago, TTF has been conducted in two languages, i.e. english and mandarin depending on the speakers and topics. For exemple, in May we have Dato' Ambiga, the President of Malaysian Bar to speak on Judicial Reform in English. In fact many more distinguished English speakers have spoken at Teh Tarik Forum, such as Hishammudin Rais, Malik Imtiaz, Dr, Nungsari and many more.
It was mere co-incident that the speaker for this topic, Miss Fong prefer to speak in Mandarin. Hoowever, gerakan heart you are most wel-come to attend this week TTF cos Anil Netto of Aliran is coming to speak on "Petrol Hike & sustainable development" and yes, it is conducted in English.
So, you see it has nothing to do with discrimination or marginalization whatsoever. It was so happen that the said talk you discussed was conducted in Mandarin.
gerakan heart actually you are most welcome to attend and offer suggestions on suitable topics as well as speakers ofr the betterment of TTF, members and teh public.
Thanks Veon
But I dont understand Mandarin, how do you expect me to follow?
And Dato Ambiga spoke in English which is acceptable, if she spoke in Tamil i would have opposed.
Veon you have good intention but I think Gerakan has forgot its struggle for multiracialism - 30 yrs ago there would be no way this nonsense racist way of organising talks would have been allowed by our leaders then.
Gerakan is losing aim, please do something before its all over.
Sdra gerakan heart,
Personally, I share your concerns to certain extent. In a way, we have drifted away from our original struggle - multi-racialism, hence the perception of Gerakan as a Chinese-based party, whether real or otherwise.
Go back to basic, we must as the whole party and not merely the leadership. Sdra gerakan heart, your participation and contribution towards this end is much appreciated.
Coming back to Teh Tarik Forum, the record shows that throughout the past two years, 70% of the talks were conducted in English. In fact, in general the response for our talk is English has been more consistent and encouraging. But this doesn't mean that we will only focus on English speaking crowd. As and when, we find some interesting topics or speakers that are more comfortable in Mandarin or Bahasa, we will organize the same for the benefit of all. After all, we, Gerakan, is a multi-racial political party.
In the meantime, hope to see you at this week Teh Tarik Forum on "Petrol & Price Hike: sustainable development" by Anil Netto of Aliran and the talk is in English. See you there saudara.

Saudara Veon,
Nice of you to explain, however I think it will serve no purpose listening to a language i dont have any clue about.
You may have good intentions, positive outlook, the truth is our members are mainly made up by people who joined Gerakan to be part of BN and hence the windfall with it. I am not saying everybody, but a good number and hence when things go bad (like now) they will disband.
It doesnt help that Indians in the ground have already ditched Gerakan for DAP or PKR - who seem to provide better deal for them - LGE gave deputy Cmship to indian, speaker in Perak, more councillors, JKKK, etc etc. Plus Gerakan never really improved the status of Malays or Indians in the state.
The party has lost its course since 1990 after Chong Eu left. I call for KTK to resign and change leadership. Current leadership is racist to the core, as our former member Datuk Rhina Bhar agrees.
Haha,
Member korang sendiri hentam sampai kangtoi oi.
Ini bukan aje memalukan parti, tapi memalukan blogger ini yang bertungkus lumus nak kuatkan partinya konon - ish buat malu aje.
He, ishya allah pilihanraya nanti kita orang Melayu akan musnahkan Gerakan sekali lagi - pengkhianat bangsa. Kita orang Melayu miskin kat negeri sendiri kerana tauke macam Tsu Koon.
Pengecut who deletes comments, leave the rakyat/leaders decide for themselves la you numpty
