Power Struggle Within PKR Penang

The power struggle within PKR Penang had worsen with the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin, Law Choo Kiang and Abdul Malik Abul Kassim.

Penang PKR chairman Datuk Zahrain Mohamed Hashim said the three were dropped to enable them to concentrate on their duties in the state administration.

Mohammad Fairus and Law were previously deputy liaision chairmen while Abdul Malik was the secretary.

Datuk Zahrain close allies were appointed to replace them.  There are Balik Pulau division chief Dr Mansor Othman, Deputy Speaker Tan Hock Leong and state PKR election director Mustafa Kamal Mohd Yusoff.

Craving for more power, Zahrain want the state government to increase PKR representation in statutory bodies and in government-owned as well as government-linked companies.

He also expressed dissatisfaction over several of the state government’s decisions which, he said, were made without consulting the party, such as the appointment of former Gerakan leader Datuk Lee Kah Choon as investPenang executive chairman. Is PKR under Datuk Zahrain eyeing this position too?

Penang PKR is also clamouring for the positions of MPSP president and district officers which are currently held by civil servants, PKR want it for their members.

Hey

新年快乐.心想事成.
Tks for the good Penang updates.
I think Barisan is being really great Opposition in Penang and Selangor. In Perak, Tajol Rosli is still mourning, it seems.
Anyway, to give a national perspective
1. Things are not good in Selangor too as we know from the recent threats from the Indian leaders, etc
2. In Pahang, some oldtimers are unhappy with the perceived parachuting of ex-UMNO big wigs like Datuk Fauzi to lead the state.
3. In Perak, there was the "sedekah" scandal....
4. In Penang, the feel that I get from your and Kay Peng's blogs is that the Penang govt is grating the locals, esp with cultural events deemed to be organised by non-Pakatan friendly groups.....

Don't you think Zahrain is behaving like UMNO Penang?

Hi Jed:

Yes, Zahrain is behaving like UMNO Penang. This similar situation got Gerakan into troubles as over time demands got bolder.

The Umnonization of PKR is a natural process as long as Anwar is the de facto leader.

PKR, at this moment, do not have another visionary leader to reverse this process.

PKR is treated as UMNO "B" team.

Those were formerly from UMNO.

Gerakan is to leave BN because of UMNO

DAP and PAS are to leave PR because of PKR that is UMNO "B" team.

PKR is the UMNO "A" team, original UMNO relegated to "B" team.

You speak like being Umnonised is a bad thing. THEN WHY IS GERAKAN STILL IN THE SAME PARTY AS UMNO!!!! Cakap tak serupa bikin??

And as though BN has any visionary leaders? The rakyat gave Pak Lah a huge mandate but he failed miserably to reform UMNO. Who else do you have confidence in?

(deleted)Najib - What has he done that is so impressive? How has he improved Malaysia being the no.2 man? He cannot even keep KT with BN la, not to mention trying to win over permatang puah with his house visitor, Mr Saiful. All he can do is buy overpriced scorpene or eurocopters.

or KTK? The visionary leader of Gerakan who got the whole party from rulers to zeros in Penang, but yet Gerakan kept him at the helm. I'm sure you belong to a really visionary party huh.

Oh ya.. I forgot. Your visionary leader whom you rest your hopes for a better Malaysia is Khairy. Has he done anything to deUmnonise UMNO?

Yes, at this moment UMNOnization connotes negative meaning. It was a term used by a PR inclined blogger.

Whether it will have a positive meaning in the future depends on UMNO itself. It depends on UMNO own reform.

Gerakan and UMNO are the original founders of Barisan Nasional, as founding partners we are facing serious problems. Whether the problems can be solved or not is still too early to determine.

Years of Mahathir domineering and visionary(his vision) leadership had stifle the emergance of new visionary leader or did not permit visionary leaders to be out in the open.

Fishhook, are you a wizard that can see the future? I do not think so.

On whether Najib is a visionary leader or not, it is too early to tell. Based on your reasoning, you can apply your argument to your Supreme Leader (which now tend to hid himself)

On KTK continue helming of Gerakan, Gerakan was going thru a transition when 308 happened – its Gerakan members decision for him to complete the transition. What will eventually transpire is unknown.

On Khairy, he is still a youth leader (albeit with potential), he is still looking for his bearing and direction. Whether he will be a future great leader for the country and UMNO, let watch and see.

I believe Zahrain did nothing wrong. He was just trying to reason things out with DAP in order to ensure main decisions are made collectively.. He did not disagree with Kah Choon's appointment but was merely questioning the way he was appointed..thats different to UMNO where whatever decision they made they expect others to follow..in what way it was umno penang?he just want the spirit of power sharing to be there..

also, i think its somehow quite unfair to stereotype the majority of PKR members..give them time its a new party..im quite positive they will try n brainwash all this umno converts..give them time..after all the young pkr leaders like nik nazmi, izzah, ginie etc are not that bad after all..they have different ideologies and hopefully no hidden agenda like other ex umno cum new pkr members..

btw its not easy to be with another party after 50yrs of umnonisation..be positive ppl..give them time..my opinion..pkr penang is doing a great job...providing good check n balance for dap..the spirit of PR..
